Monasterio de El Escorial
Home to two architectural structures of significant cultural and historical value, the Monasterio de El Escorial (Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo El Real) is situated just outside Madrid. These complexes include the actual monastery and a royal hunting lodge that once served as a retreat. During the 16th and 17th Centuries, both complexes were considered a meeting point where the temporal power of the ecclesiastical predominance of the Roman Catholic Church and Spanish monarch spurred an architectural materialization. In the past, the monastery has served as a Spanish royal palace. It is the original property of Heironymite monks and now serves as an Augustinian monastery.
